We do this because

it matters.

We invest our heart and soul into Grassroots Gravel because we believe in the experience we’re creating and the causes we’re able to support.

Every person. Every pace.

We’re creating world-class experiences for every person at every pace.

Grassroots Gravel combines industry-leading race timing, aid stations, and support vehicles on all routes with a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, an awesome expo, and a bangin’ after-party. We’re putting in work to create an atmosphere where people can feel welcome, ready and safe to push outside their comfort zone.

A race or ride means something different to every person. We want everyone to have the opportunity to get outside on a ride and experience their community and body in the outdoors. We’re building an event that’s ready for folks who are new to trying longer rides, as well as professional-level competitors looking to push themselves against each other and the clock.

Grassroots Gravel is the event to build yourself and others up with new goals. It’s also the event to challenge yourself late-season against your friends and competitors. We’re here for all of you, and we’re excited to see you push yourselves.

Biking Beyond Financial Barriers

We believe that riding is for everybody.

We launched the Ride Together Grant in our second year to create opportunities to get past financial barriers to participation and access to reliable equipment.

We believe riding can be an important part of building autonomy, confidence, and health. So we’re investing in it. The Ride Together Grant is funded directly from our operating budget, from riders who choose to contribute during registration, and with equipment support from our partners.

Supporting Volunteer Fire & Rescue

“Neighbors helping neighbors”…and an entire region

From www.RCVFR.org - Red Creek Volunteer Fire and Rescue (RCVF&R) was founded in 1996 on the principle of "neighbors helping neighbors." RCVF&R has since operated on a volunteer basis without state, county or local tax funding.

The department serves a 107 square mile rural coverage area which encompasses more than 300 properties, homes and businesses and an estimated population of over 600. RCVF&R now also has mutual aid agreements and procedures set in place which include many surrounding areas including Wetmore, Beulah, Pueblo, Custer and Fremont counties.

When you ride gravel in the Pueblo region, RCVFR is part of a network ready to respond when it matters most.

At its inception, the department developed in a grassroots manner. Originally volunteers responded through a "phone tree system" with their personal vehicles and a few fire extinguishers, as their only equipment. In 2003, a three bay fire station was completed and equipped with older model fire trucks, all of which were donated.

Since then the department has evolved. They have added another truck bay to the station, newer trucks have been donated, they have fully integrated with Pueblo County Emergency Services dispatch systems with radio and text and obtain training and certification through collaborations with other departments and agencies.

Amplifying Equity With Community Orgs

We’re collaborating with youth orgs, BIPOC, and LGBT orgs to expand equity and access in cycling.

Trying something new or pushing yourself to higher levels takes courage. Having a familiar face there with you or hearing a relatable story can make a world of difference. We collaborate with organizations who are leading work in BIPOC and LGBT equity along with youth and family access to cycling and the outdoors.

Some conversations aren’t ours to lead. But together we can amplify the powerful work these folks are doing, and we can share the joy and reward that comes from the Grassroots Gravel experience.

Our partners have included:

  • All Bodies On Bikes

  • Adaptive Adventures

  • Ride For Racial Justice

  • Boys & Girls Club

  • Melanated Lovelies

  • Queer Plus Bikes

  • Radical Adventure Riders (RAR)

  • and more!

Cultivating the Region’s Outdoor Identity

We imagine a southern Colorado where residents as well as visitors feel welcome experiencing the outdoors in their community. On or off the bike.

Getting started in anything can be challenging, especially with things that are new or unfamiliar. We’re working on tools and resources for people to build their knowledge about getting outdoors, going on rides, understanding nutrition, choosing and caring for equipment, and more.

A healthy community is good for everyone. We’re just getting started on helping people get started.

We’re committed to providing the Grassroots Gravel experience annually.

The region deserves to have something to look forward to and strategize around. We aspire to collaborate with regional stakeholders to leverage Grassroots Gravel for meaningful outcomes in public health and equitable economic development.
