Grassroots Gravel Rules & Policies

Discrimination and Harassment:

Grassroots Gravel is for everyone. We are committed to creating and maintaining an atmosphere that is welcoming, respectful, joyful and professional for every participant, volunteer, staff member and attendee regardless of their identity, orientation, ethnicity, age, religion, profession, or socioeconomic status. Any harassment or discrimination based on these attributes is prohibited and will be addressed firmly and promptly. All participants, staff, volunteers, vendors, and attendees are required to abide by this policy. Violation of our Discrimination and Harassment policy will result in possible ejection from the event or venue, ban from future events, and/or involvement of law enforcement.

Registration & Event Participation:

Registration: Registration and event waiver must be completed to participate.

Refunds & Deferrals: Your registration is not refundable or transferrable to a future event. A portion of all proceeds goes to local charitable causes and this event requires an exceptional amount of planning. Under no circumstances will registration fees or merchandise fees be refunded or deferred. Grassroots Gravel is rain or shine. That’s part of the spirit of the event! Be sure when you sign up.

Race transfers: ALL transfers close Wednesday, October 8 at 12pm MST.

Participation: Anyone participating on-course needs to be registered for the event.

Weather conditions: We’re on, rain, snow, or shine. Period.

Merchandise & Swag items: Rider swag items only guaranteed for registrations completed at least 30 days prior to event.

Rider Packets: Packets must be picked up by the rider or a contact with a copy of the rider’s photo ID during designated packet pick-up times. Packets may not be available outside of these defined pick-up times.

Participant Equipment:

Number Plates: Number plates must be attached to the front of your bike at the handlebars and be visible from the front. Number plates should not be folded, rolled, bent, or otherwise cleverly altered to attempt some perceived benefit. Altering the number plate can and often will ruin the chip and your timing.

Protective equipment: Helmets are required to participate and should be a model that meets current cycling industry safety standards.

Bike/Trike: You can ride any bike, trike, etc you want, with whatever bars etc you want as long as the equipment is designed and rated for unpaved terrain and rugged use. Your bike should be in good working order to participate.

Brakes: Functioning brakes front and rear are required to participate.

Singlespeed: Singlespeed riders must maintain the same gearing ratio for the duration of the entire event.

E-bikes: Ride whatever bike you want. We have an E-bike category for each route and category. The E-bike category is timed but non-competitive. E-bike riders are expected to be familiar with the range of their equipment over their chosen course terrain and bring spare batteries if required. E-Bike participation is limited to pedal-assist E-Bikes only. Please contact us if you have a question regarding electric-assist adaptive equipment.

Etiquette:

Leave No Trace: Make sure to leave the roads and the land better than you found it. Everyone has a different goal on course…but there’s still time to respect this place and put waste where it belongs.

Private Property: Unless explicitly marked as part of an aid station, remain on the marked course, respect private property, and respect the neighbors whose homes we may be riding past.

Courses and Course Support:

Course routes: Courses are subject to change up to event day. Updates will be communicated via the courses page, social media, and e-newsletter.

Course marking: Courses will be marked before race day, though riders should expect to rely on their own map, cue sheet, or GPS file for navigation. Navigation resources can be found in the Rider Guide. Riders must stay on designated courses.

Rules of the road: All participants must follow all traffic rules and laws and apply common sense. Stay on your side of the road. Pay attention to speed, road condition, and your fellow participants. Watch out for each other. Let’s all have fun and make it to the finish safely.

Outside Support: To avoid the unnecessary risk of additional vehicles on-course and to maintain integrity in race competition, riders are expected to operate self-supported with the addition of our event Aid Stations. Outside support may only be provided at designated Outside Support locations on course. Designated Outside Support locations will be defined in the Rider Guide. Outside Support or personal vehicles may not travel with riders on course, nor provide aid outside of designated Outside Support locations. Breach of this policy will result in disqualification of the rider(s) associated.

SAG vehicles: All courses will have SAG vehicles to support riders experiencing distress, mechanical failure, or medical incidents. All participants should ideally have a plan and a contact in place to provide a vehicle back to Pueblo if necessary during their race or ride. This will ensure the SAG team can properly continue to monitor and support all courses and all riders through the day.

Results & Podiums:

Contesting or Challenging a result: If a rider contests a race result, Grassroots Gravel timing or operations staff must be contacted in-person at the event or within one day of the end of the event.

Be cool.

Be Cool: Grassroots Gravel is for everyone. Enjoy it. Be kind. Support your fellow riders. Be respectful of staff. Thank your volunteers. We’re all in this to have a great experience.
